The IOE prospectus design needed to provide an overview of the institutes values and mission, whilst pushing the design forward.

IOE is a world leading Faculty of Education and Society. From legacy to innovation, they have been shaping policy and helping government, organisations and individuals to navigate a radically changing society for the last 120 years.

Situation

The prospectus needed to provide an overview of the institutes values and mission, while pushing the design forward, and answer the many questions students may have. Ultimately, its purpose was to generate an incremental number of enrolment applications. The Institute of Education’s prospectus design was old and was not communicating to the right audience. The in-year application count was down by around 30 per cent on the previous year. There were three months to close this gap. To add gravitas and integrity, we commissioned a professional photography shoot. The portraits add a personal touch alongside the introductory messages and immediately establish a connection with the reader.

Approach

The design needed rethinking whilst being respectful the current branding. The approach we took was conducting research into the audience and brainstorming and conceptualising a new design. A proposal was drafted which was sent to tender. A design team was then selected. Throughout the process communication with stakeholders was maintained.

Result

Although a radical design in comparison to previous years, the design route was praised senior staff. The result was the Institute succeeded in closing the remainder of this gap with the institute’s numbers finished on target.
